Purposeful goal setting. Who doesn’t want that in 2025? As a Christian businesswoman, you already know the importance of aligning your work with God’s will. But when it comes to setting goals for the new year, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to start. Here’s the good news: goal setting doesn’t have to feel like a daunting to-do list. When you approach it with a faith-driven perspective, it becomes an act of worship and stewardship.

In this post, we will walk through a simple yet powerful framework to set intentional, God-centered goals for your life and business that I covered in detail in the latest episode of the podcast. You can listen to the whole thing below. 👇🏻

Why Goal Setting Matters

Purposeful goal setting is more than just writing down what you want to accomplish. Proverbs 16:3 reminds us, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” This isn’t about striving for perfection; it’s about partnering with God to steward the gifts, talents, and opportunities He’s given you.

When your goals align with His vision, you’re not only moving toward success but also walking in obedience and trust.

The Faith-Driven Goal Setting Framework

Here’s how you can set purposeful goals that align with your faith:

1. Pray First

Before putting pen to paper, take time to pray and invite God into the process. Ask Him to reveal what’s most important for this season.

  • Ask Yourself: What is God asking me to let go of? What opportunities is He opening? Where is He calling me to grow?
  • Pro Tip: Write down your reflections to revisit as you work on your goals throughout the year.

2. Reflect on the Past Year

Looking back is essential for moving forward. Celebrate your wins and acknowledge the lessons God taught you through challenges.

  • Wins: What worked well? Where did you see God’s hand?
  • Lessons Learned: How did setbacks shape your perspective or skills?

3. Set SMART Kingdom Goals

Create goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART). But here’s the twist: ensure every goal has a Kingdom perspective.

  • Example Goal: Grow your email list by 20% in Q1 to share your God-inspired message with more people.
  • Why It Matters: You’re expanding your reach to serve others and glorify God.

4. Build Accountability

We’re not meant to do life alone. Share your goals with a trusted mentor, coach, or accountability partner who will cheer you on and lovingly challenge you when needed.

  • Tip: Consider joining a faith-based mastermind group or creating a weekly check-in system with a friend.

5. Surrender the Outcome

This might be the hardest part, but it’s also the most freeing. Trust God with the results and remain open to His redirection.

  • Write a Prayer of Surrender: Commit your goals to the Lord and ask for His guidance. This small step can make a big difference in how you approach your plans.

Bonus Tips for Staying Motivated

  • Celebrate Small Wins: Track your progress and thank God for each step forward.
  • Stay Rooted in Scripture: Keep verses like Habakkuk 2:2-3 (“Write the vision; make it plain on tablets…”) visible in your workspace as a reminder of God’s promises.
  • Use Tools: Download the Faith-Driven Goal Setting Worksheet to help you map out your goals with clarity.
