Let’s be real—who actually wants to dive into deep waters when you can’t see what’s underneath? It’s uncomfortable, unpredictable, and, let’s face it, terrifying. But sometimes, God calls us to do exactly that, especially in our businesses.
In Luke 5:1-11, we find Simon Peter, tired and frustrated after a long, unproductive night of fishing. Just as he’s washing his nets, ready to call it quits, Jesus shows up and asks him to go back out into deep waters. It’s the last thing Simon wants to do. He’s exhausted, and he’s caught nothing all night. But because Jesus says so, Simon obeys—and the result is a miraculous catch of fish so abundant that his nets begin to break.
As Christian businesswomen, we often find ourselves in Simon’s shoes. We’ve worked tirelessly, seen little return, and feel like giving up. But then, God steps in and asks us to go deeper—right when we’re at our most tired, most unsure, and most afraid.
Facing the Fear of the Deep
Here’s a confession: I’m afraid of deep water. I don’t like lakes, the ocean, or even deep swimming pools. Why? Because I can’t see what’s lurking beneath. Just like in business, we want to be in control. We want to know what’s coming, what’s under us, and how to navigate the challenges ahead. But God doesn’t always give us that luxury. Sometimes, He calls us to the deep end, where we can’t see or predict what will happen next.
But here’s the truth: the blessing isn’t in the shallow water. It’s in the deep. God isn’t asking us to trust the waters. He’s asking us to trust Him.
When God Calls Us Deeper
Simon Peter didn’t catch his miraculous haul in the shallow end. He had to push out into the unknown, trust Jesus, and let down his nets one more time. It’s the same in business. We may be hesitant, tired, and unsure, but when God calls us to go deeper, it’s because He’s got something greater in store.
And just like Simon, we need to be prepared. Simon was washing his nets after a long, fruitless night. He wasn’t sitting around feeling sorry for himself; he was getting ready for the next opportunity. So, the question is: are you preparing for the deep end? Are you ready to respond when God says, “Go”?
The Blessing Awaits
When Simon obeyed, his nets were filled to the point of breaking. He had to call for backup to help manage the overflow! Can you imagine your business being so blessed that you have to bring in others to help handle the abundance? That’s what happens when we trust God and step out into the deep, even when it’s uncomfortable, even when we’re afraid.
So, what deep waters is God calling you to? What steps do you need to take in faith, even when the outcome is uncertain? The blessing is waiting—but you’ve got to be willing to dive in.
Are you ready to push out into the deep in your business? Let’s go together, trusting that God has already prepared the way. If this resonates with you, share it with a friend who needs the same encouragement today!
