If you are at all like me, you see one of those personality quizzes and you are compelled to press the button to answer the questions and find out the result. Can learning about personality types help you in your business? The short answer is yes!
What rock star are you most like? Where is your perfect vacation spot? And the latest one I took – What does your dream bathroom look like? Anyone else?
Seriously. I know that I am a Lion/Golden Retriever mix (almost split down the middle), a D/C, a Red/Green mix, an 8 wing 9, a Shark/Sea Urchin combo, G/T (with a W rising) in the “working genius” arena, and the list could go on.
What is it about those tests that are so alluring to us? Well… I believe we are driven to know ourselves. Not (always) in a narcissistic way – we just want to know why we do what we do. And spinning off that, why others do what they do.
I have found in my studying of personality types that the more I know about myself and others, the better I can navigate life, family, friends, work, and yes – my business.
RELATED: What are you afraid of?
I have discovered things about myself that are strengths and how to maximize those and on the flip side – I know more about my weaknesses and what to look out for that could trip me up and get me into trouble. But, I have also been able to learn how to discern what others are in my world and boy has that made a huge difference in how I come at situations.
Knowing your personality type strengths and weaknesses can help you understand your clients
I have found it especially helpful in my business. When I can pick up on how clients speak, words they use in conversation – it can really be helpful in knowing how to guide them through the client journey (whatever that looks like for them). Giving them enough of the right information but not too much to overwhelm. Knowing when they need more hands-on care and when they would rather go it alone.
Learning how to pick up on key personality “tells” can help you take your client care and your business to the next level.
I had the joy of speaking to my good friend and personality expert, Abigail Doust, about this subject. You can check out that convo here or click on the video above. Check it out and be sure to subscribe and share 😃
