Sometimes the best clarity comes with a laptop, a latte, and a little fresh air.

Ever feel like you’re hustling hard but not sure if you’re moving in the right direction? You’re not alone. Most entrepreneurs I talk with are juggling a hundred plates — client work, marketing, admin, family life — and by the time September rolls around, they’re running on fumes. That’s why I’m a huge believer in hitting pause this time of year to do one simple thing: a business survey.

It might sound small, but a thoughtful business survey can shine a light on what’s working, what’s not, and where God may be nudging you to realign. Proverbs 15:22 reminds us, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” Your customers and audience can be some of the wisest “advisers” you have — if you’ll stop and ask.

Why a Business Survey Works

When you’re in the thick of your own work, it’s hard to see blind spots. We’re often too close to our own genius to realize where things feel confusing or disconnected for others. A survey gives you:

  • Fresh perspective — hear what your audience really values.
  • Clear direction — discover what offers, content, or services resonate most.
  • Alignment check — make sure your message and your mission match.

As Paul encourages in 2 Corinthians 13:5, “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.” The same principle applies in business: testing, examining, and refining keeps us aligned with our God-given purpose.

How to Use the Results

Once you’ve gathered responses, look for patterns. Do you see common frustrations? Are there requests you haven’t been addressing? This isn’t about chasing every whim, but about discerning which feedback aligns with your calling and business strategy.

Use the survey results to:

  • Clarify your messaging for the rest of the year.
  • Adjust your offers to meet real needs.
  • Confirm where you’re already on the right track.

And don’t forget: feedback is a gift. Even hard-to-hear comments can be the nudge you need to grow.

Wrapping It Up

Friend, finishing the year strong isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing the right things with intention, purpose, and alignment. A simple business survey can help you quiet the noise and hear clearly what matters most — from your people and from the Lord.
