“You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.”
– James Allen
I have been in the MLM space for many years. I would say seriously for about 8. I started hearing this “buzz term” – personal development in network marketing and as a lifelong learner decided it was something I should probably do.
I read some books. Took some courses. Listened to a podcast here or there. You know… all the usual things to check off of a list.
But it wasn’t until more recently that I have come to the conclusion that it is not something I should do – it is something I MUST DO!
Personal Development in Network Marketing: Should You Do It?
Author Sidney Madwed says, “Our subconscious minds have no sense of humor, play no jokes, and cannot tell the difference between reality and an imagined thought or image. What we think about continually eventually will manifest in our lives.”
I consider myself a generally positive person, but I know when I let my negative side take over for any length of time, it starts me in a downward spiral. So, just imagine what that does to all areas of your business and your life if you continually live that way.
The good news is that our minds are very elastic and can be reprogrammed with a bit of time and discipline. YAY!
I have made it a practice to spend at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days per week feeding my mind with things that will inspire, encourage, challenge, teach – in essence, I am programming it. I rarely listen to anything but podcasts and audiobooks in my car when I drive. The way I see it I should be spending at least as much time feeding my brain good, positive, productive things and I do feeding it mindless TV 😂
The results? I’m glad you asked!
Since I started really working on my mindset (thanks to a fabulous mindset coach, Peter James) – my business has doubled in revenue, and I feel more confident in myself and my abilities than I have in a long time.

At first, when people started commenting on my “stepping up” in leadership and abilities, I was not making the correlation. But now I realize that my work with personal development has allowed me to carry myself differently and has had positive effects in many areas of my life.
The power of the mind to affect REAL and lasting change in our lives is unlimited. If you don’t believe me, Google it 😊 Seriously, do some research. Read anything by Dr. Caroline Leaf. Look up the power of Mind Movies. Do all the things.
Find people who empower you and teach you. make them your virtual mentors. If you want to know what I am reading/listening to and who I’m being mentored by – check out my favs page.
And I’ll leave you with this…
“I found that when you start thinking and saying what you really want then your mind automatically shifts and pulls you in that direction. And sometimes it can be that simple, just a little twist in vocabulary that illustrates your attitude and philosophy.”
— Jim Rohn
