I didn’t plan to take a break from the podcast.

And I definitely didn’t plan to walk through the kind of grief that completely knocks the wind out of your chest.

But here I am—back after an eight-week “mabbatical” (a mini sabbatical born out of burnout and heartbreak), and what I have to say might just meet you right where you are.

Whether you’re in a winter season spiritually, emotionally, or professionally, I want to talk about what happens when everything feels quiet, buried, or even dead—and what God might actually be doing beneath the surface.

Understanding Spiritual Seasons and Rhythms

Let’s be honest—most of us weren’t taught how to live in rhythm with the Spirit. Especially as Christian business women, we’re often running at full speed trying to steward our gifts, grow the business, lead the team, serve the family, and oh yeah—rest, too.

But here’s the truth: we were never created to sprint year-round.

Just like nature has seasons—growth, bloom, harvest, and rest—so do we.

Ecclesiastes 3 lays it out clearly:

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

That includes time to build and time to tear down.
Time to plant and time to uproot.
Time to grieve and time to dance.

If you’re in a winter season right now, you’re not broken. You’re in rhythm.

Winter Feels Like Death, But It’s Often Where God Works Deepest

When my dad passed away earlier this year, I didn’t realize how much it would affect everything else—my energy, my creativity, my ability to lead, and honestly, my desire to keep showing up in public spaces.

Grief doesn’t care about launch calendars or social media metrics.

There were moments in those weeks where everything looked dead. I wasn’t producing, I wasn’t posting, and I certainly wasn’t podcasting.

But in the quiet? God was doing work I couldn’t see.

“There’s a lot happening underground when it’s winter. When everything looks dead, God is still working.”

That truth hit me hard. Just because it’s not visible doesn’t mean it’s not valuable.

Why Christian Business Women Must Learn to Rest Without Guilt

Let me say this plain: Rest is not lazy.
And if you don’t give your soul space to breathe, your body will eventually force you to stop.

I had to learn the hard way that productivity is not the proof of my obedience.
You can be flat on your face in a quiet season and still be walking in alignment with God.

We’ve got to stop shaming ourselves for slowing down.

Because here’s what I’ve learned in this season:

  • Grief is not the enemy of growth. Sometimes they show up holding hands.
  • God’s timing won’t always match your timeline. And that’s a good thing.
  • Rhythms are holy. Not because they’re trendy, but because they’re rooted in how God created us to live.

How to Navigate a Quiet Season with Faith and Grit

So what do you do when you’re in a winter season?

Here’s what helped me:

1. Get honest with yourself and with God.

No more pushing through pretending. Let yourself feel what you need to feel.

2. Rest—really rest.

Not scrolling-on-the-couch rest. Not “working from bed” rest. I’m talking about soul-deep, intentional stillness that makes space for God to move.

3. Remember that underground growth is still growth.

Just because it’s not flashy or shareable doesn’t mean it’s not sacred.

4. Surround yourself with people who don’t need you to perform.

Find your safe space—friends, mentors, coaches—who will let you be in process.

Final Word: Trust the Season You’re In

Here’s the thing, friend: You don’t have to be in bloom to be in purpose.

God’s not watching your highlight reel—He’s tending to your roots.

So if you’re feeling buried, unseen, or out of rhythm, maybe this season isn’t meant to be your biggest breakthrough… maybe it’s meant to be your deepest becoming.

Don’t rush the winter.

Let it do its work.

And when the time is right, you’ll rise again—with stronger roots and clearer vision.
